get involved

The most obvious way you can get involved is to post or submit your femslash material to websites, communities, journals, groups and forums on the 17th July. Many of those things you can do on the day itself, but please be aware that many archives require you to submit your work in advance, so it is always best to check with them first to see if they have a deadline for that day's update. Remember to always abide by the rules of wherever it is that you decide to post/submit, as nothing kills a celebration faster than disagreements about what can and cannot be posted where.

If you're not a writer, graphic artist or video editor, you can still show your support for IDF in a number of different ways. The most obvious is also the simplest, and that is to give feedback on the things you see and read, so that the authors know their time and effort has been well spent. You can also take part in femslash related discussions (meta), polls and quizzes, as well as talking about your love of femslash on your journal or with friends.

Okay, so those are the things you can do on the day, but that's only half the story. To make the second annual International Day of Femslash even more successful than the last, we need to spread the word even farther than before. There are many ways this can be accomplished; if you're an owner, maintainer or moderator of a group or site you can talk about it with your members and advertise the event using one of the graphics you can find on this site. If you have a personal journal, you can again use a graphic to adorn your profile and show your support. Icons and avatars displaying the IDF logo should be used as frequently as possible, and in as many different locations as possible, to help capture people's imaginations. Also, don't forget to ask your friends, community managers and favourite website owners what they plan to do for IDF. If they've already organised something, that's great, but if they haven't you just might convince them to take the plunge and join in the celebration.

If you are a website owner or community manager, think about how best you and your group can help to celebrate and advertise the event. Challenges and ficathons often work very well or you might just decide to have an 'on the day' contest to get everyone in the mood. It is entirely up to you.

IDF is a chance for all of us to enjoy the day and celebrate something that we love. So, if you have an idea of how we can do that, please let us know.
